In Beyond Fossil Fools, Joseph Shuster refers to global warming as the "Great Distraction", in that we should be focussing on our energy supplies rather than solving global warming. He gives the impression of being skeptical of global warming.

Fair enough, that's his opinion, but mine is that even if global warming were not real, we should still act as though it is, as the consequences of inaction would be devastating. Not only that, but the measures we need to take to ensure a future of cheap and clean energy are almost identical to those needed to reduce the impacts of global warming.

So, what is global warming as far as I am concerned? To adapt Mr Shuster's term, I would call it the "Great Accelerator": another scary thing on a list of already scary things which really ought to encourage us to act.
